'Excellent' £22m player is the perfect signing for Arsenal and could damage Spurs’ transfer plans - opinion

As the summer transfer window grows near, Arsenal seemingly have a clear strategy to improve Mikel Arteta’s record-breaking squad.

Despite their extraordinary season, Arsenal were ultimately trophyless, and their defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League race came down to the finest of margins.

One of those differentials was perhaps City’s deeper squad, which helped them avoid the, albeit very brief, lulls Arsenal suffered.

Pep Guardiola could perhaps trust his squad better than Arteta, turning to the likes of Jack Grealish rather than Reiss Nelson.

That being said, Arsenal appear to want additions in three areas: a new striker, a versatile midfielder and a new full-back.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko is reportedly subject to a bid from Arsenal, a credible understudy for Kai Havertz.

But with Arsenal likely to give up in pursuit of Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, owing to his asking price, the perfect alternative could be staring them right in the face.

Adam Wharton is the perfect signing for Arsenal, he can’t end up at Tottenham

Although he only signed for the club six months ago, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton appears ready to play at the very top level.

Wharton’s England debut was as spectacular as his Palace form, proving why he could be the perfect profile to play alongside Declan Rice for club and country.

It would certainly take an audacious bid to tempt Palace to sell Wharton so soon, a player who is crucial to Oliver Glasner’s exciting new project, but a deal can’t be deemed impossible.

TBR Football recently shared that Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur were continuing to monitor a move for Wharton – further reason for Arsenal to make a play.

At 20-years-old, ‘excellent‘ Wharton looks akin to the finished article, explaining why Bayern Munich are also said to be monitoring the situation.

Arsenal are currently said to be undecided on whether to sign a number six or an eight – a decision dictated by future plans with Rice.

Wharton can do both, a player who offers Arteta the tactical flexibility he desires, a Jurrien Timber mould but in midfield.

As stated, it would be an incredibly ambitious move, but one that could surely be secured for much cheaper than Bruno Guimaraes, even if Arsenal more than double the £22m Palace paid to sign Wharton.

All that being said, Arsenal have been told it would take an ‘enormous’ bid to sign Arteta’s top target this summer.
