Chris Sutton says whether Chelsea's Cole Palmer should start for England at Euro 2024

Chris Sutton has been discussing whether Chelsea star Cole Palmer should be a starter for England at the Euros.

Cole Palmer has started England’s two warm-up games ahead of Euro 2024 and was a revelation for Chelsea last season.

In 45 appearances for the Blues, the attacker, who recently grabbed his first goal for England, netted 25 times and provided 15 assists.

With a record like that, Gareth Southgate had no choice but to include him in his squad. Now it is just a matter of whether he will start in Germany or not.

Despite missing a good opportunity in England’s 1-0 defeat to Iceland, former Three Lions defender Michael Dawson was still impressed with Palmer.

Chris Sutton on Cole Palmer

Sutton has admitted that he was not sure how Palmer’s move from Manchester City to Chelsea was going to work out.

However, the former Chelsea striker thinks Palmer has gone on to be a revelation at Stamford Bridge and believes he should start for England in Germany.

Speaking about Palmer on BBC Radio 5 Live, he said: “Do you know what? This season Cole Palmer, going to Chelsea, I wasn’t sure how that move was going to pan out. I think he has been a revelation.

“And Gareth, in this particular squad, he has done something which he probably hasn’t done before and he has gone for players who are in form. You know, he is a stickler for royalty. I would shove Palmer into the team. I think he is a brilliant player. As a 10. He has played that position.”

Where is Cole Palmer likely to start for England at Euro 2024?

While Palmer can play as a No.10, you would expect Jude Bellingham to start there after the season he had at Real Madrid.

The 20-year-old scored 23 goals and set up another 13 and helped Real Madrid to win the Champions League.

If Palmer is going to start at Euro 2024, then, he is probably going to play on the right.

The only problem is Bukayo Saka also plays there, giving Southgate a really tough decision to make.
