Brazilian international Newcastle reportedly want to sign has just called Bruno Guimaraes his 'idol'

Newcastle United will have Copa America representation this summer.

With Anthony Gordon and Kieran Trippier in line to shine for England at Euro 2024, much of the focus in this country will naturally be on those two Newcastle players this summer.

However, they aren’t the only two who will be strutting their stuff on the grandest of stages.

Indeed, Fabian Schar will represent Switzerland despite a late-season injury at club level, while Martin Dubravka is in the Slovenia squad ahead of his potential departure from St James’ Park this summer.

Then there’s the Copa America.

Miguel Almiron will play for Paraguay, while Guimaraes will represent Brazil.

Joelinton’s injury last season may have cost him a place in the Selecao set-up but Guimaraes is very much a part of their plans.

Indeed, the midfielder played during Brazil’s 3-2 win over Mexico in a pre-tournament friendly on Saturday night and alongside a player Newcastle are reportedly keen on.

Fulham’s Andreas Pereira has recently been linked with a move to St James, along with Aston Villa and Tottenham.

Andreas Pereira calls Bruno Guimaraes his ‘idol’ amid Newcastle links

After the dramatic game, Guimaraes took to Instagram to write: “We’re on our preparation!!! Let’s go Brazil.”

In response, Pereria replied: “Idolo [which obviously means idol in English].”

Andreas Pereira might not be Newcastle’s priority this summer

Pereira did reasonably well for Fulham last year, amassing seven Premier League assists in 34 starts from an attacking midfield berth.

While not to say he would be a bad signing by any means, Newcastle may have other priorities.

They are believed to be focusing on strengthening in goal, on the right wing, at centre-back and bolstering the attack by signing a back-up striker.

Pereira does not fit any of those profiles easily. Though he has played on the wing, only ten of his career appearances to date have come in that position (via Transfermarkt).
