'Extraordinary': Tony Cascarino thinks reported £55m Chelsea target plays like Ryan Giggs

Tony Cascarino really likes the look of one Chelsea target, comparing him to Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs.

Chelsea could look very different in the 2024/25 season.

The Blues, of course, have a new manager following the appointment of Enzo Maresca, while they have already signed Tosin Adarabioyo.

The central defender has joined Chelsea from Fulham on a free transfer.

After strengthening their backline, the club now look set to turn their attention to their attack.

Tony Cascarino makes very interesting comparison

Chelsea have been linked with several strikers ahead of the transfer window opening.

The above includes Benjamin Sesko, with journalist Simon Phillips recently claiming that Chelsea have informed RB Leipzig that they are willing to pay the player’s £55m release clause.

While Sesko has been compared to Manchester City’s Erling Haaland, Cascarino thinks that the 21-year-old actually plays like Giggs.

Speaking about Sesko on talkSPORT (09/06/2024 at 08/08/2024), he said: “He is 6ft 4in, 6ft 5in. He is a big lad, powerful as well, and he can dribble. For someone who is 6ft 5in, he runs with the ball unbelievably. He gets linked to being similar to Haaland, but if you watch him play, he dribbles, like Ryan Giggs.

“He will run at people and he will literally go around them. That’s the extraordinary thing he has got. I have not seen a 6ft 5in player play like him. I have seen him in wide positions. He is not as traditional as a number 9, but he can certainly go into a deep area and pick up the ball and he will go past people.”

Benjamin Sesko’s dribbling stats

As per FBref, Sesko has averaged 1.03 successful take-ons per 90 minutes over the last year.

It puts him in the 71st percentile among forwards, which is not terrible given that the Slovenian is such a big player.

Chelsea will be buying Sesko for his goals, though, with the Leipzig star scoring 18 times in 42 appearances last season.

He went on a run of seven goals in seven games at the end of the 2023/24 Bundesliga campaign, showing what the Slovenia international is truly capable of.

It makes it no surprise that Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United are all chasing Sesko. It will now be interesting to see who wins the race for his signature this summer.
