The Zip Lock hack has saved my bank account and it only took 15 seconds

One-size-fits-all doesn’t work when it comes to zip-lock bags. These are expensive compared to other storage bags, and available in limited sizes.

For the unversed, zip lock bags are seal-again bags, primarily used for airtight seals. They are common in most households owing to their convenience and reusability. But zip lock bags are mostly available in bigger sizes, which aren’t as useful when you have multiple items to store. That’s when I discovered the viral TikTok hack.

Zip-lock hack on TikTok takes less than 15 seconds

I can’t wait to show you how the quickest and easiest hack is done. All you need is zip-lock bags, a knife, and fire (you can use a candle, lighter, or gas stove).

The viral method is popular for showing how to make multiple bags out of a single zip-lock, without any limitation on the size.

Heat the metal blade of the knife using a flame from any of the sources mentioned above for about 10 seconds. While the heating happens, place a big-sized zip lock on a flat surface – tiles or a layer of metal preferably. Do not try this hack on a wooden or plastic table as the heat from the knife causes severe damage to the surface.

Now measure the zip-lock bag to your desired size and gently slide the heated knife on the marking in a straight line. The heat from the metal blade instantly cuts through the bag, without you having to exert additional pressure. Don’t touch the knife or the zip-lock bag immediately and let them cool for some time.

Now you have multiple zip lock bags of smaller sizes to store your favorite items. The open sides seal automatically from the heat and remain intact, making it possible to store both solid items and liquids.

How to join 2 zip-lock bags together

There’s another kitchen hack to create an extra large freezer bag using zip locks – it doesn’t need any additional equipment.

Take two zip-lock bags. Keep one of them as is, while flipping the other inside out. Bring the open ends together and stick the contrasting sides together as shown in this video. For instance, if the bag has a yellow and red line that sticks together, use the same combination when connecting two separate ones.

This results in a bag twice the size of the original one – perfect to store a large pizza, cake, or anything you want in one piece.
