'Was a privilege': Leicester City star now sends heartfelt message to Enzo Maresca

Leicester City players will return to pre-season knowing there will be a new manager in charge following Enzo Maresca leaving to take charge of Chelsea.

With the celebrations that followed the Championship title feeling like a distant memory, Leicester‘s players who won’t be featuring in international tournament football this summer will be starting to look ahead to next season.

Who will be the man in charge come the first day of pre-season remains to be seen, with the likes of Steve Cooper, Carlos Corberan, Graham Potter and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer all having been linked with the role vacated by Maresca.

For some players this will represent a fresh chance to impress, whilst for others it could see their involvement reduce.

One player who should be a feature of the side regardless of who is at the helm is Stephy Mavididi and the English winger has taken to social media to send a message to the departed Maresca.

Stephy Mavididi sends emotional message to Enzo Maresca

Mavididi scored 12 Championship goals and assisted six more as he terrorised opposition full-backs all season long under Maresca.

It was the most productive season of the 26-year-old’s career, having spent time in Italy and France prior to making the move back to England last summer.

Whilst Mavididi deserves enormous credit, the player himself sent a message of appreciation to the manager who gave him a chance to return to England, posting a picture of him and Maresca holding their respective Player and Manager of the Month awards on his Instagram story.

The caption that accompanied the image read: “Mister it was a privilege to work and develop under you. You taught me a lot about myself. All the very best and see you again soon.”

Mavididi set to finally get Premier League chance

When Mavididi made the decision to leave Arsenal for Juventus in 2018 he would not have envisaged he would not make a single appearance for the Italian giants.

Nor would he have expected to spend four years in France prior to making his return to England; signing for Leicester last summer after time at Dijon and Montpellier.

Now, six years after leaving Arsenal, Mavidid is set to finally make his first Premier League appearance next season at 26.

It has been an unconventional path to England’s top tier, with Mavididi perhaps blossoming later than many of his peers.

Now that he has got to the Premier League, the winger will be determined to stay there and whichever manager comes in should have a player with fire in his belly as well as ability in abundance.
