Chelsea should try to sign £35m player as well as his Manchester City teammate Julian Alvarez - opinion

Chelsea could raid Premier League rivals Manchester City again this summer.

Last year, Chelsea signed Cole Palmer from Manchester City and reportedly want another player from the Etihad in the upcoming transfer window.

It has been claimed that the Blues are considering making a bid for Julian Alvarez.

However, he is not the only City player who Chelsea should be looking at.

Chelsea’s interest in Julian Alvarez

Chelsea targeting Alvarez makes a lot of sense. When the transfer window reopens, they need to sign a new striker.

Former manager Mauricio Pochettino finished last season with Nicolas Jackson as the only recognised centre-forward in his squad. That is not enough.

Alvarez is Premier League-proven now, spending a couple of years at City, and may actually fancy a move after having to play deputy to Erling Haaland.

The Argentine, who scored 19 goals in all competitions for City last season, could be the perfect man to come in and help out Jackson. However, Chelsea should not stop there.

Chelsea should consider making bid for Ederson

Alvarez’s City teammate Ederson, who cost his current employers £35m, could be on the market this summer it seems.

According to Fabrizio Romano, there is a possibility of the goalkeeper departing the Etihad.

With Enzo Maresca coming in, Ederson could be a great addition between the sticks for Chelsea.

The Italian wants his side to dominate possession, which means playing out from the back, and Ederson is obviously renowned for being exceptional with the ball at his feet.

Maresca’s Leicester team had the second-highest ball percentage average in the Championship last term (WhoScored). Having a No.1 like Ederson at Chelsea will help the 44-year-old to successfully transfer his philosophy over to west London.

After Palmer’s success at Chelsea, though, you would have to wonder whether City would sell Ederson to their Premier League rivals, let alone the Brazil international and Alvarez. They are the kind of signings that could help the Blues return to the top again.
