Report: Arsenal still in race to sign striker who's 'better than Haaland' and could hijack deal

Arsenal are still in the race to sign a striker who’s ‘better than Haaland’ and could hijack the deal, according to a recent report.

Mikel Arteta’s men fell two points short of the Premier League title and the onus will now be to go one better next year.

They’re one or two top-class additions away from bridging the gap on Manchester City and it’s become glaringly obvious that a new striker is needed.

With that said, it has just emerged that they remain in the race for a striker who’s ‘better than Haaland’.

Arsenal remain in Joshua Zirkzee race

According to Sky Sports, Arsenal remain in the race to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

The 2001-born striker is a target of AC Milan, who are trying to close a deal after flying to London for talks.

Zirkzee has a £34m release clause in his contract and Manchester United are also monitoring the developments.

Milan appear to remain in pole position but Arsenal could yet hijack the deal, with the lure of Premier League football perhaps a deciding factor.

Joshua Zirkzee statistics

Zirkzee enjoyed a phenomenal season for Bologna last term, netting 12 times whilst laying on seven assists.

The former Bayern Munich man ranks in the top 11 per cent for successful take-ons compared to his positional peers across Europe, as per FBref.

Further, he sits in the top 17 per cent for progressive passes, so it’s evident he’s not a traditional number nine as he likes to create chances for others.

For £34m, he’d be a smart addition for Arsenal.
