‘3/10’: £27m Tottenham player described as a ‘spectator’ after his latest display for his country

It’s set to be a busy summer for a host of Tottenham Hotspur stars with Euro 2024 and the Copa America just around the corner.

Tottenham will have four players at this summer’s Euros and three at the Copa America.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg will represent Denmark, Micky van de Ven made the final cut for the Netherlands squad while Guglielmo Vicario and Radu Dragusin will also head to Germany, representing Italy and Romania, respectively.

Rodrigo Bentancur received the nod from Marcelo Bielsa for Uruguay while Spurs’ Argentine duo Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso will also feature in the Copa America.

Romero and Lo Celso were in action for Argentina today in a warm-up friendly for this year’s tournament.

Lionel Scaloni’s men picked up a 1-0 win over Ecuador and while Romero impressed, Lo Celso has received mixed reviews from the media in Argentina.

Tottenham’s Lo Celso labelled a ‘spectator’ after latest Argentina display

Angel Di Maria’s 40th-minute strike earned Scaloni’s side a win in their penultimate warm-up game ahead of the Copa America.

But after struggling for minutes under Ange Postecoglou last season, Lo Celso was seemingly way below his best.

TyC Sports handed the midfielder a 6/10 rating for his display and claimed Lo Celso didn’t offer enough in the final third.

“He tried to be a handle, he was never static but he did not manage to finish with danger nor to assist,” they wrote.

Lo Celso was given the same rating from Goal, with the outlet stating the Spurs star was way below his usual standards.

“Didn’t offer his usual creativity from the middle, and spent periods as a spectator,” they said.

Cadena 3 were even more critical of Lo Celso’s display and handed him a 3/10.

It should be no surprise that Lo Celso was off the pace for Argentina yesterday after starting just one game for Tottenham since the turn of the year. That start came way back in January as Spurs beat Burnley 1-0 in the FA Cup third round.
