O'Neil could finally sign 'insane' striker target for Wolves as new transfer update emerges - opinion

Wolves must be tempted to revisit one former target as Gary O’Neil hunts new faces this summer.

After coasting to a 14th-place finish in the 2023/24 Premier League, Wolves will be eager to finally replenish their squad in the transfer window.

Gary O’Neil navigated his way through the season with limited depth, with lots of work to be done this summer to ensure his side now progress.

The Old Gold have been linked with several talents ahead of the upcoming window, with one former target posing an interesting prospect as his transfer stance is revealed.

Wolves learn transfer stance of former target Youssoufa Moukoko

Leading up to the January transfer window, Wolves were linked to Youssoufa Moukoko, who was eyeing a loan move from Borussia Dortmund.

The player, who was an 18-year-old at the time of Wolves’ apparent interest, has struggled to secure minutes at Dortmund due to competition.

This summer, it seems as though the teenager could now secure a move away from the Bundesliga, something that Wolves should keep tabs on.

As reported by German outlet WAZ, Moukoko is one of the players who ‘could leave’ in the upcoming transfer window.

A move away would make sense for the German who secured just four Bundesliga starts over the 2023/24 season.

Moukoko could thrive under Gary O’Neil

Once lauded as ‘insane’ by U23 scout Antonio Mango for his ability to play above his age group, Moukoko has shown his worth at senior level so early into his career.

Last campaign, the teen maintained a stellar conversion rate of 36% in the Bundesliga, via Sofascore, an average higher than Harry Kane (25%), scoring five goals for his efforts when called upon.

As expected for a 19-year-old playing in the first division, Moukoko’s game time was limited, which is where Wolves could present themselves as the ideal project for the striker.

O’Neil has already showcased his ability as a coach to get the best out of his goalscorers, most prominently through his work with Matheus Cunha.

The German has indicated that he has all the fundamentals to make it as a reliable goalscorer at top level, with just consistent game time missing from his development.

Wolves are in dire need of a number nine, posing as an attractive place for Moukoko to grow at what is an exciting time at Molineux thanks to O’Neil.

Only time will tell if the Old Gold look to re-spark their interest in the youngster, who could be the answer to the manager’s transfer wishes this summer.
