Report: Wolves now learn asking price for ‘phenomenal’ transfer target, it’s bad news for O’Neil

Wolves have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of one rumoured target as his price tag has now been named.

Gary O’Neil will be eager to bolster the depth of his Wolves squad this summer, as the transfer window fast approaches.

The Englishman guided the Old Gold to a 14th-place finish last term, a position that the boss will hope to improve next season.

The transfer window will determine just how far Wolves can progress under O’Neil’s guidance, with lots of work to be done to strengthen the squad.

Several players have already been linked with a move to Molineux however, the manager may have been dealt a blow in his pursuit for one rumoured target.

Wolves learn asking price for transfer target Aaron Ramsdale

Earlier this week, Wolves were linked to Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale as one possible replacement for Jose Sa.

It’s not the first time that the Midlands club have been credited to have interest in the Englishman, who was linked to Wolves in the January transfer window also.

While it looks likely that the 26-year-old will depart the Emirates this summer after falling out of favour in Mikel Arteta’s side, Wolves is unlikely to be his next destination.

The Sun have now reported that Arsenal want a fee in the region of £50m for their second-choice goalkeeper, a price that would surely take him out of Wolves’ reach.

Ramsdale’s price tag will deter many clubs

Ramsdale was lauded as ‘phenomenal’ by David Seaman however, his price tag could be a problem this summer.

There are very few clubs that would be able to facilitate a £50m swoop for a goalkeeper, with the sides with such finances not requiring a shot-stopper.

The Sun’s report details Newcastle United’s interest, adding that the Magpies see the Englishman as being ‘wildly priced’.

The current tax on buying from Premier League clubs may tempt O’Neil to continue his search aboard, with the situation of Sa’s future still up in the air.

Jorge Mendes is reportedly looking for a new club for the Wolves ‘keeper, who has been at Wolves since 2021.

One player that has been linked to Molineux is Liverpool’s Caoimhín Kelleher, who could be available for around £20m this summer.

Given Sa’s rumoured stance, it will be interesting to see where Wolves take their quest for a new ‘keeper in the upcoming transfer window, with interest in Ramsdale surely now at a dead end.
