Report: O'Neil transfer boost as manager now 'believes' Wolves target will soon leave for record fee

Wolves could have been handed some good news in their pursuit of one summer transfer target.

Gary O’Neil will hope to have a busy summer at Molineux, as Wolves bid to replenish their squad in the transfer window.

Several players have already been linked with both an arrival and departure from the club this summer, in what will be an interesting time for the Old Gold.

One area that Wolves are hoping to bolster is the attack, with one target’s future now made clear in what is an encouraging update for O’Neil.

Talleres manager expects Wolves target Ramon Sosa to leave this summer

Wolves have been linked to Ramon Sosa, who currently represents Argentine club Talleres in South America.

The Premier League side are thought to be favourites to sign the winger due to Jorge Mendes recently becoming his agent.

This week, journalist German Garcia Grova said that Wolves have a ‘good chance’ of securing a deal for the 24-year-old, who has an asking price of US$20m (£16m).

O’Neil’s chances of landing the forward have received another encouraging update, as Talleres manager Walter Ribonetto shared his stance on Sosa’s future.

As relayed by Sport Witness, reports in Argentina revealed that Ribonetto now ‘expects’ the winger to leave this summer, in what ‘could be a record’ transfer.

Wolves are in a good position to land Sosa

After the lows of the 2023 summer transfer window, strong links to Sosa this early into the summer will come as a relief to Wolves fans.

Due to financial concerns, the Old Gold were forced to part ways with a host of stars last year, leaving O’Neil with a small squad to navigate through the 2023/24 calendar.

This year will be different as early links to Sosa suggest, in a deal that could see O’Neil capture a star talent from South America.

The Paraguay international is one of the top wingers in Argentina, averaging 3.27 successful take-ons per 90, an average that puts him way ahead of Pedro Neto who recorded 2.20 per 90 in the 2023/24 Premier League, via FBref.

Sosa being one of the most exciting wide players in Argentina is an opinion shared by analyst Ben Mattinson, who described the 24-year-old as ‘one of the best players in the league’ due to his ‘unpredictability’.

It will be interesting to see how the deal develops, with Wolves in a position to capture another star talent from South America, following the dazzling 2023 signing of Joao Gomes from Flamengo.
