'No sign': Alan Nixon issues update on future of Chris Rigg at Sunderland amid interest from 5 PL clubs

Alan Nixon has issued a promising update on the future of Sunderland midfielder Chris Rigg.

Chris Rigg put pen to paper on a two-year scholarship deal last summer and went onto become a key member of Sunderland’s senior squad in the second half of the campaign.

After making 21 appearances last season, the teenager has attracted plenty of interest from across Europe.

Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle, Man City and Liverpool areamong the clubs chasing Rigg, who can’t sign a professional contract until he turns 17 years old next week.

With Rigg wanted by a high number of European giants, his future at the Stadium of Light remains in doubt.

Recent reports have claimed that his time at the club could depend on who Sunderland appoint as their next manager, while he is expected to hold talks with them before he makes his decision.

There is ‘no sign’ of Chris Rigg leaving Sunderland soon

The Black Cats are yet to make an appointment though and could come under increasing pressure if any club makes a move for Rigg.

However, Alan Nixon has reported that there is ‘no sign’ of any bids coming in for the teenager.

When asked if there was any news on Rigg staying at Sunderland, Nixon wrote on X: “Somebody would have to buy him … and no sign of an offer close.”

Sunderland’s new appointment could be a game-changer

Sunderland’s next managerial appointment could really have an impact on which players choose to stay at the club this summer, and Pascal Jansen’s removal from the shortlist could well have a negative effect on Rigg’s future.

The Black Cats need to bring someone inspiring in that the midfielder feels can help him develop and also guide Sunderland towards the top of the table.

While no clubs have come in for the 16-year-old just yet, it seems only a matter of time that one side could spark a battle for his signature and Sunderland could feel pretty helpless.
