Report: What sources in Man City's Under-23 team actually say about Enzo Maresca's coaching

It has been reported what sources close to new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca have been saying about his style of coaching.

The Italian has limited experience in first team football, however has been handed a long contract at Stamford Bridge in a sign that the club back him to take the project into the future.

Despite promotion to the Premier League with Leicester City in his first season as a manager in England, some of his best work to date has been with the Manchester City academy working closely with Pep Guardiola.

There he had experience working with the best the world-renowned City academy had to offer, including a number of players who currently play their football for Chelsea.

Two of these players are Cole Palmer and Romeo Lavia, with them both reportedly already speaking highly to their teammates about what could be to come under Maresca.

The Italian had a highly successful stint in charge of the Under-23 side at the Etihad, and those closest to that line of work have now been talking about what they noticed during his time there.

Sources told The Athletic that the players under him were ‘hanging on every word’ the coach said, with some describing him as ‘phenomenal’.

Chelsea set to be busy in summer

While there is obviously a big difference between this level and where Chelsea want to be in the not too distant future, there is certainly fundamentals which they can be positive about going into next season.

A lot will perhaps come down to the transfer window the Blues are able to have, with them reportedly looking at reinforcements in attack.

It was claimed today that the Blues are prioritising a deal to sign Michael Olise, perhaps taking into account how strong wingers were in Maresca’s Leicester side that threatened to cause a shock at Stamford Bridge in the FA Cup last season.
