F1 fans deliver their verdict on Logan Sargeant’s future after his crash at the Canadian GP

Williams Racing had a Grand Prix to forget in Montreal with both of their drivers failing to finish the Canadian Grand Prix.

Alex Albon had another fine weekend, pulling off a brilliant double overtake and qualifying in the top ten once again.

However, he was taken out by Carlos Sainz in the closing stages of the Grand Prix which prevented him from adding to his points tally.

Unfortunately, Logan Sargeant had a much tougher weekend and was involved in the first major incident of the race.

The safety car was brought out after Sargeant hit the wall at turn four and his Williams was left stranded across the track.

Plenty of F1 fans have now given their verdict on the young American who was already running last before he made contact with the barriers.

Logan Sargeant had already made an excursion off the track before his race-ending shunt.

He went straight on at the treacherous turn six and gave the barriers a small tap with his front wing.

The American managed to avoid any lasting damage but was running on his own for the rest of the race as he was unable to catch up to the chasing pack.

That didn’t matter in the end as Sargeant made an unforced error in wet conditions and damaged his car beyond repair.

While Sargeant’s previous mistake in the race had already cost him his chance of scoring his first point of the season, Williams would have at least hoped that he could bring the car home in one piece.

Fans are now starting to question whether Sargeant should still be in the car for the rest of the campaign.

It’s already looking increasingly likely that Sargeant’s time in Formula 1 will come to an end when his Williams contract expires.

Posting on social media when the crash happened, Williams said: “SAFETY CAR DEPLOYED. Logan makes contact with the wall and is out of the race. Thankfully he reports that he’s ok.”

The team’s message received hundreds of replies with many fans suggesting that Williams should be looking at alternative drivers.

@kennethmacleod said: “We are losing points every race. There are others more deserving of a seat at Williams.”

@agungky2 suggested: “Ship him to IndyCar immediately,” while @jamiec7x potentially harshly replied: “Sargeant is worse than Mazepin genuinely.”

@HonestF1er added: “OK but cancel his contract right now,” and @Sixx_OW told Williams who they need to hire instead: “Sign Liam [Lawson].”

User Riko had an alternative view and commented: “Please give him an upgraded car. This is so unfair.”

There are plenty of drivers who would love to be given the opportunity to race in F1 if Williams decide to part ways with Sargeant.

Carlos Sainz is expected to be in line to replace him for the 2025 season, however, if Williams decide they need to replace Sargeant before then, others such as Mercedes junior Kimi Antonelli might be in line to step into his seat.

Sargeant needs to have a better race in Spain otherwise the pressure will only continue to build as he looks to improve his diminishing chances of staying in Formula 1.
