'He's so clever': Sergio Reguilon says one Man City star is 'the most underrated player I've seen'

Sergio Reguilon believes there is a player at Manchester City who might just be the most underrated player he has seen.

Manchester City have a plethora of wonderful players in their squad and so many of them are praised to the high heavens on a regular basis.

Players like Phil Foden, Erling Haaland and Kevin De Bruyne are always grabbing headlines for their exploits, and are most definitely ‘rated’ by the masses.

But there is one player in City’s squad that Tottenham Hotspur full-back Sergio Reguilon still just doesn’t get the credit he truly deserves.

And that player, is Rodri

Rodri is currently viewed by many as the best holding midfielder in the world. But it has taken quite a while for many to come to that point of view.

Rodri has been top-level for around three years now. But he’s probably only had ‘best in the world’ shouts since the end of the Treble-winning season.

The Spaniard – who was branded ‘extraordinary’ by chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak last week – has just produced another wonderful season, that saw him score nine goals and make 14 assists across 50 appearances. The star did that while dominating pretty much every game he appeared in.

The Premier League have released a new video on their YouTube channel focusing on some players ahead of Euro 2024, titled ‘World Beaters’

In that video, Reguilon speaks about Rodri – and admits he is the most underrated player in the game today.

He said: “When I talk about football with my Spanish friends, I always say Rodri is the most underrated player I’ve seen because he’s a fantastic player, he’s so clever, he has the quality. For me he’s top, top, top level.

“He took the passing from Busquets, he’s physically stronger than him, I think he’s getting better and better and I don’t know what his limit is.”

Rodri feels much higher rated generally now

It does feel nowadays that people are finally talking about Rodri how he should have been talked about two or more years ago.

He is very clearly the best in the world in his position at this point. Rodri dominates games for City, and last season we saw him finish with 23 goal involvements, which is absurd for a defensive midfielder.

Rodri has also proven time and time again that he is a man for big moments as well, which further increases his stature.

The exciting thing is that Rodri has only just now arrived at the start of his peak years. These next few seasons, in theory, are when he should be seeing Rodri at his absolute best.
