Rangers have secured summer signing number three having confirmed the signing of young defender Clinton Nsiala from Italian giants AC Milan.
The Gers needed to get plenty of business done this summer and we are already seeing moves being made.
After missing out on the title, Rangers have already allowed a handful of experienced players to leave Ibrox.
Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe are all moving on at the end of their deals and Rangers are striking incoming moves.
Left back Jefte has finally joined the club after being targeted in January whilst Oscar Cortes is returning on loan from Lens.
Rangers continue to be linked with potential additions but fans have been treated to another signing – and this one seemed to come out of nowhere.
Rangers signing Clinton Nsiala reacts to AC Milan exit
It seems pretty clear that Nils Koppen wants to bring a fresh approach to Rangers.
Koppen is focusing on landing young talents with big potential and he struck another deal in that mould with the signing of AC Milan defender Clinton Nsiala.
Reports of Rangers closing in on Nsiala started to emerge with Bundesliga clubs missing out on a deal.
Rangers then announced the move, confirming that the 20-year-old centre back will arrive on July 1st.
Nsiala joined Milan from the Nantes ranks in 2021 and has been on the bench in first-team games over the last year.
A left-footed centre back with potential for the future, Rangers will hope to see Nsiala take his game to another level in Glasgow.
Nsiala has now taken to Instagram to send a message after deciding to leave AC Milan and try a new experience with Rangers.
The defender noted that he is leaving after growing as both a player and a person, praising coach Ignazio Abate for his influence.
Nsiala added that he is proud to have represented Milan but the ‘journey continues’ elsewhere with Rangers striking an exciting deal.
“It’s time to say goodbye to this team, I’m doing it after three years of personal and professional growth. A team that became family and took me as a child and now leaves me as a man. A team and a coach who believed in me until the end. Speaking of coaching, Ignazio Abate if I am what I am today besides my feet and hard work, it’s all because of you who have always believed in me and continue to do so,” said Nsiala.
“Proud to wear the AC Milan shirt. Thank you for the support. Thank you to AC Milan. The journey continues,” he added.
Nils Koppen on Nsiala move
It’s unclear just how quickly Rangers will view Nsiala as a first-team player but he will have certainly made the move with senior minutes in mind.
Rangers director of recruitment Koppen certainly seems delighted with the move as he spoke to the club’s official website.
“We are excited to add a talented young player in Clinton to the squad,” said Koppen. “He joins as an exciting talent who we believe can develop and take his next steps under our manager, Philippe Clement, and his staff.”
“We look forward to welcoming Clinton to Glasgow as we continue to shape the squad ahead of the 2024/25 campaign,” he added.
Rangers may view Nsiala as another Calvin Bassey; a young, left-footed defender who had plenty of development football under his belt but needed to take the next step.
Bassey ended up making Rangers millions, growing into a quality left-sided centre back under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
It is now over to Philippe Clement to try and develop Nsiala into that kind of player but we sure about one thing; Nsiala won’t be the last young talent to join Rangers this summer as Koppen continues to make moves.
