£3m playmaker reporting for Rangers duty about turns and suggests alternate transfer plan

Rangers have lost a lot of experienced players already this summer and as well as promising youngsters, some with a few grey hairs could be recruited.

The five who left at the end of their Ibrox contracts have left a big hole in the manager’s squad.

One midfield option who could be at Rangers next season has opened up on where his future lies with the player himself not entirely sure.

Rangers future looks bleak for Ianis Hagi

When Ianis Hagi left last summer to join Deportivo Alaves, he probably had dreams of setting La Liga alight and of impressing a host of clubs.

The 25-year old has made no secret of his desire to play in Spain, however, it hasn’t quite gone according to plan.

Having just returned to full fitness, taking a step up in level whilst trying to rediscover form probably wasn’t the wisest move in hindsight.

Given the shortage of attacking options at Rangers, Philippe Clement will probably welcome the mercurial playmaker back to Auchenhowie with open arms, however, Hagi has claimed that his future might lie elsewhere:

“My focus is on the Euros. I had talks with my agents and the pressure is on them.

“They know what I want for my future, it’s a pretty important summer for me from all points of view. I told them before going to the national team what I wanted.

“I expect them to work as well as possible, to find the right team and the right manager for me.

“I can’t say if I’ll be at Rangers or somewhere else. My future depends on my agents.”

Ianis Hagi can be Rangers dressing room leader

If Rangers want to cut the wage bill, retaining the services of Hagi could make a big difference.

The Romania international is capable of playing on the right, at number 10 and in a deeper box-to-box role which could allow Nils Koppen to cash in on a few players who aren’t up to scratch or nearing the end of their contracts.

The other side of the argument is that Hagi is a saleable asset.

His name alone probably brings in more than the £3m that Rangers paid for him in 2021.

What often gets forgotten with Hagi is that he is a winner.

His interview after scoring in a 1-1 Europa League draw with Brondby highlighted perfectly what his mentality is.

And who can forget Braga?

At 21 years old, it was he who took responsibility and grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck.

He has his faults but, in a summer, when there could be a mass clear out, Hagi’s name shouldn’t be on the list of those emptying their lockers.
