Reporter claims £5m Rangers player is now wanted by his former club as important Ibrox role beckons

Rangers have already said goodbye to a handful of players but there could be more departures to come.

A flat end to the season – and subsequently missing out on the title – means Rangers need to improve.

Philippe Clement certainly won’t be happy with second place and the Rangers boss will be looking to mould his squad this summer.

A number of players have been let go at the end of their contracts with Jon McLaughlin, Borna Barisic, John Lundstram, Ryan Jack and Kemar Roofe moving on.

Clement is clearing the decks at Rangers and it may not just be out of contract players departing.

Rangers may also look to sell some first-team regulars in an attempt to bring in cash and raise funds for Clement.

Ridvan Yilmaz Rangers exit rumoured

Rangers fans probably won’t be too surprised to read that Ridvan Yilmaz is again being linked with a move back to Turkey.

This seems to happen in every transfer window and new rumours are suggesting that Yilmaz could be on the move.

Turkish reporter Ertan Suzgun claims that Besiktas want to re-sign Yilmaz just two years since selling him to Rangers.

Besiktas are ready to sell left back Arthur Masuaku, with the former West Ham United ace receiving interest from around Europe.

Yilmaz is the top choice to replace him, but Suzgun claims that the ‘conditions will be difficult’.

Yilmaz suggested less than a week ago that he has no plans to leave Rangers, so Besiktas may find a deal pretty difficult.

Rangers have just brought in a new left back, landing Brazilian talent Jefte from Fluminense.

It’s unclear just how much football Jefte will play straight away, with the 20-year-old no doubt needing an adjustment period in Scotland – just as Yilmaz did after his arrival.

Barisic’s departure means Yilmaz may need to take on a bigger role at Ibrox next season.

Yilmaz featured in 25 Scottish Premiership games this past season but looks primed for a bigger role with Barisic gone.

That leaves Besiktas surely struggling to strike a deal, unless Yilmaz personally pushes for a return to Turkey.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst may want Yilmaz reunion

The speculation comes just days after Besiktas appointed former Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their new manager.

Van Bronckhorst was in the Rangers dugout when Yilmaz arrived at Ibrox in a £5million move.

Curiously though, Yilmaz only played seven times under Van Bronckhorst at Rangers, accumulating just 376 minutes of action under the Dutchman.

Van Bronckhorst may have simply felt that Yilmaz wasn’t ready for Scottish Premiership action at that point in his development.

Yilmaz already knows Turkish football and the expectation levels at Besiktas, so may believe that a return to Istanbul makes sense now.

Stil, with Yilmaz wanting to stay Rangers, we would be surprised to see a return materialise this summer.
