'Fantastic': Pundit excited by Sheffield Wednesday transfer news regarding 'instrumental' PL gem

Carlton Palmer believes this latest transfer development is ‘fantastic news’ for Sheffield Wednesday.

Danny Rohl and Sheffield Wednesday appear to making a start with their summer transfer plans, after securing an impressive 20th place finish in the Championship last season.

The Owls have several names on their radar including the likes of free agent goalkeeper Ben Hamer, 36, and Angers right-back Yan Valery.

Recent reports say that the pair could soon arrive at S6 and become Rohl’s first summer signings at Hillsborough.

It could mark the start of a very busy summer at Sheffield Wednesday with plenty of players expected to come and go.

Another player expected to arrive at the club this summer is Brighton and England youth goalkeeper James Beadle.

James Beadle poised for Sheffield Wednesday return

Recent reports have revealed that Sheffield Wednesday are set to re-sign Beadle on loan from Brighton this summer.

And former Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Carlton Palmer believes this is ‘fantastic news’ for the Owls.

He told Football League World: “He [Beadle] will ultimately come back to Sheffield Wednesday as the number one goalkeeper.

“He was very instrumental in his stint from Christmas onwards, helping the club stay in the Championship

“Beadle will return as number one. This is fantastic news for Sheffield Wednesday and the supporters. But, they will have to bring in another goalkeeper as cover for James Beadle with [Cameron] Dawson set to leave.”

Cameron Dawson is tipped to leave Sheffield Wednesday this summer when his contract expires, in a bid to play regular first-team football.

The goalkeepers Sheffield Wednesday will have next season

With Beadle set to return, he’ll no doubt be Rohl’s no.1 choice, like Palmer suggests.

But with Dawson leaving, a more experienced no.2 will be wanted, and that’s exactly what Hamer is; his arrival looks imminent and he’ll provide great coverage for Beadle.

Hamer may also be something of a mentor for Beadle who’s almost half of Hamer’s age, with another youngster in Pierce Charles likely to be third-choice.

Charles though may yet be sent out on loan if Rohl feels like he should be playing more regularly next time round, leaving another youngster in Jack Hall as the potential no.3.

So Sheffield Wednesday appear to have sorted out their goalkeeping department early doors this summer.

But it’s just one of a few areas that need bolstering during the summer transfer window, with others like the attacking department bound to be harder to fill.
