Report: £60m player who Newcastle want has now agreed personal terms with Chelsea

Newcastle United could soon miss out on another summer transfer target to Chelsea.

The Blues have already pipped Eddie Howe’s side to Tosin Adarabioyo, despite Newcastle United being confident that the 26-year-old would head to the North East.

Alas, Chelsea swooped in with an offer, and Tosin decided to remain in West London by swapping Craven Cottage for Stamford Bridge.

While it was not the biggest blow in the world, it was disappointing to miss out on Tosin. The fact he was available on a free was very appealing, and signing him would have allowed for more money to be spent elsewhere. Now Newcastle must reassess their transfer plans, with Howe keen to sign a right-sided centre-back.

Newcastle want to sign a new right winger

The Newcastle United manager is also interested in adding a new right winger to his squad, with the majority of the Magpies’ summer budget expected to go towards that.

Some exciting names have been linked, such as Jarrod Bowen. However, the fear is that he will be too expensive.

The same goes for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise, who is also on Newcastle’s radar.

However, the big problem with Olise might be other suitors, rather than how much he is going to cost.

Newcastle have a Michael Olise problem

It has been no secret that Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in Olise, as well as Newcastle.

And it is Chelsea who appear to be signalling their intent early in the window.

According to Give Me Sport, Chelsea have verbally agreed personal terms with Olise for him to swap Selhurst Park for Stamford Bridge.

They add that Enzo Maresca’s side are now discussing the payment structure with Crystal Palace, suggesting that they will not have to pay his release clause in one lump sum. It has been reported that he will cost £60million, which would make him one of Newcastle’s most expensive signings ever.

But it would appear that Olise is on course to become a Chelsea signing, although Give Me Sport add that a deal is still not close and that other suitors could still come in for the 22-year-old.

Newcastle feel likely to miss out

With Chelsea already agreeing terms with Olise, it feels likely that Newcastle are going to miss out.

It would also suggest that Olise is not necessarily adamant about joining a Champions League club, as Chelsea will only be playing in the Conference League.

But for Newcastle, there will be no European football. All they can attract Olise with is their project. In contrast, Chelsea have a project of their own, the lure of European football and the appeal that Olise would not have to relocate.

While there is still time for Newcastle to tempt Olise to Tyneside, it currently feels extremely unlikely. That means that the Magpies will have to look elsewhere, as they aim to bring in a player that can compliment Alexander Isak and Anthony Gordon in attack.

I wonder if Howe’s main target is still a secret, as the players that have been linked – Olise, Bowen, Nico Williams – all feel very much out of reach right now.
