Shawn Finch and Alliya Batista are coming through with bombshell after bombshell as they star in 90 Day Fiancé: Love In Paradise this June. The couple met online before meeting in person and making a go of their romance in Brazil. Just when fans were getting used to the idea of the two getting married, Alliya revealed some important details about their relationship.
TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé spin-off Love In Paradise is onto season 4 this summer. Episode 8 comes with some surprises for fans as Adriano asks Alex a pretty ‘out there’ question, and Alliya lays her relationship with Shawn bare.
Shawn and Alliya’s romance on 90 Day Fiancé
There are some complexities to Shawn and Alliya’s romance on 90 Day Fiancé.
Knowing the TLC show, nothing’s ever particularly straightforward for the stars as many are travelling hundreds of miles to be with their other halves.
Adding more to the equation, when Shawn and Alliya first met, Alliya was known as Douglas as she was assigned male at birth. While she and Shawn were dating, Alliya began embracing her feminine side.
The couple also has a 36-year age gap with Alliya celebrating her 25th birthday on the show and Shawn being 61 years old.
Taking to Instagram in May, Shawn wrote: “Daily happiness. When I realize my ‘oldest’ daughter (45) is now age appropriate to ‘apply’ to be on TV’s MILF Manor…yet I am still claiming to be in my 30s.”
‘Open relationship’ bombshell
Love In Paradise season 4 episode 8 came with a total shocker when Alliya explained that she and Shawn are in an “open relationship.”
Just two episodes back, and Shawn was proposing marriage to Alliya on her birthday.
She explains how she and Shawn hadn’t yet been intimate since he’d arrived in Brazil.
Alliya said: “I think it’s more like I was avoiding that because before having sex and stuff I think we first need to have conversations. My concerns are about the open relationship.”
The revelation left 90 Day Fiancé fans very confused with one tweeting via X (Twitter): “Wait wait Shawn and Alliya have an open relationship but he asked her to marry him? Are they going to continue the open relationship even tho marriage was proposed?”
More commented on the couple’s romance: “Shawn and Alliya shouldn’t get married if they don’t want to be in an open relationship!”
Another said: “Surprised Alliya never knew she was in an open relationship…”
More fans had some words for Alliya’s friend, Jackie, who was asking all the questions in episode 8, writing: “I know she’s Alliya’s friend but she’s really deep in their business.”
