'If I had the chance': Yan Valery drops major hint about his future amid Sheffield Wednesday interest

Yan Valery has dropped a major hint over a potential move to England amid interest from Sheffield Wednesday.

Yan Valery spent seven years in England with Southampton, coming up from their academy and making his senior debut in 2018.

The defender went onto return to France with Angers, where he has become a regular as they were relegated to Ligue 2 before being promoted again.

Valery could now be on his way back to England though, with reports claiming that he has agreed personal terms over a move to Sheffield Wednesday.

A deal for the right-back is still far from done though, with The Star reporting that Standard Liege and Montpellier are both very interested in signing him.

Both teams could offer Valery top-flight football, though Valery has recently dropped a hint that could suggest he would prefer the switch to Hillsborough.

Yan Valery suggests he favours a move to Sheffield Wednesday

Speaking in an interview with 90football last week (quotes from The Star), Valery said: “Actually, I have become English. When I go to England, I immediately feel this calmness and this way of living that I personally prefer…

“If I had the chance to go back to England, I’d take it. I have really felt a warmth and things that I think are normal for a human being. He shouldn’t be bitter or not like his neighbour just because he’s different or because he sees life differently. We all live together, if you can help your neighbour, you help them. It’s more like that in England. You find that less easily in France.”

The Owls could now have their first signing across the line

Despite spending most of his life in France, Valery appears to favour a move back to England.

Given his past relationship with Danny Rohl from his time with the Saints, the German will surely be confident of convincing him to move to the Championship.

The Owls will have to hope no other English club decides to join the pursuit, but they will surely have a great advantage unless a team from the Premier League swoops in.

Valery could be the first of many signings for Wednesday this summer, but arguably doesn’t fill a position that desperately needs bolstering.

Pol Valentin will have some healthy competition, but the Owls’ left-side is probably more concerning.

Wednesday have plenty of time to go though and can hopefully get some business across the line early doors, just like they did with Rohl’s contract.
