£50m player suggests he’s ‘very happy’ and does not want to leave Liverpool this summer

Liverpool are getting ready for a summer of extreme change within the football club.

With Jurgen Klopp’s reign at Anfield now a thing of the past, the Reds are preparing for the Arne Slot era.

As well as Slot though, there’s set to be a brand new coaching team at Liverpool. And that transition is likely to expand to the first-team squad, where a number of changes are set to be made.

There will hopefully be a couple of incomings as we continue through the summer, but it feels possible that some players could leave Anfield, too.

One of those most readily linked with a move away has been Luis Diaz. With Barcelona reportedly pushing to sign Diaz, his days at Liverpool could be short. Finally, the Colombian has publicly addressed his future.

Luis Diaz speaks out on Liverpool future

Diaz had a mildly frustrating season with Liverpool. Although he was electric at times, there were far many more occasions where he couldn’t get going.

As a result, Jamie Carragher claimed that Liverpool could improve upon Diaz and there was even talk that staff at the AXA Training Centre were openly discussing his sale.

Despite that, the latest reports suggest that Liverpool are more than happy to keep Diaz unless a huge offer comes in.

Although Barca may be interested, they are also completely out of money. There’s little chance of them being able to stump up the cash to sign the Colombia international.

Unless Diaz actively pushed to leave Liverpool, the Reds would have no reason to budge on the price.

And happily, there is no suggestion that the No.7 is about to try anything underhand. Speaking to Colombian outlet Gol Caracol on Monday, Diaz claimed that he is happy and settled at Anfield.

“I’m very happy there in Liverpool, it’s a great team and club, I always wanted to play there, so I’m very happy, calm,” says the 27-year-old.

“I’m not thinking about anything else, I’m thinking about the Colombian National Team, which is where we are.”

Luis Diaz set for Liverpool stay

Despite the strong nature of links to the likes of Barcelona and also PSG, we now don’t see how Diaz leaves Liverpool this summer.

The only scenario in which that changes is if a huge bid comes in for his services. Something much more than the £50m Liverpool paid for him in 2022.

Should that happen, a conversation would need to be had. We don’t doubt that Diaz could be upgraded upon if Liverpool really wanted to do so.

If they get a massive offer for him, they’d be wise to at least consider it.

Unless that comes about though, Diaz will be a welcome part of Slot’s squad for next season. If he can hit the high level we know he’s capable of, there’s still a chance we haven’t yet seen the best of the Colombian at Liverpool.

Nice to hear he’s happy and settled. The next part has to be improving consistency on the pitch.
