WHAT’S UP TODAY

First up this morning in your Miami Hurricanes news?

Our annual State Of The U series continues. Today we are starting our breakdown of the recruiting classes that make up this year’s team, and that means we’re taking a deep dive into the Class of 2020. So be sure to check that out.

There’s also our continuing analysis of the top 50 roster players, giving insight onto this team’s talent level and depth. Check out our closer look at No. 19, DT CJ Clark.

In recruiting?

It starts with Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench. He is set to take a mid-week official visit to Miami starting today, and we catch up with him.

Visiting with Ffrench today? That’s Orlando (Fla.) Jones top-35 receiver Vernell Brown III. We also talk with him heading into the trip, so find out where things stand there, too.

Then we catch up with the coach of weekend commitment Timothy Merritt for just what Miami landed there. Don’t miss that.

There was an offer that went out on Sunday to a guy who impressed coaches … and Michael Irvin. That’s 2026 WR Larry Miles, and we catch up with him.

We also catch up with another weekend visitor, this one from the 2026 class – the nation’s No. 3 tight end prospect out of Saint George (Utah) Pine View, Brock Harris. So where do the Canes stand now?

And, as always, stay tuned today for any news that may come up.

MESSAGE BOARD POST OF THE DAY

My take on Miami’s secondary … Posted by MikePCane

Miami has a lot of length on the back end and they will use that to try and hold up guys off the line. Sure a guy like Floridas qb could complete a lot of passes against that group but we don’t play too many guys who can do that over and over. Our secondary is an issue but we have some guys like Damari can be good and Porter has been good. A lot of it is going to come down to tech and tackling. Do you get the guy on the ground if he catches it. Miami has a lot of guys who can get after the passer and the short game only gets you so far. Miami will play some zone behind that line. There is a lot you can do.

If the secondary is well coached and plays within their abilities — getting the guy down if he catches, being in position to contest the catch — we will be good enough back there where our front can help. I surely think you can coach up solid guys on the backend with elite talent up front over elite talent on the back end and solid talent up front.

Our guys have to do their jobs. Manage risks, stay in position and tackle and don’t get rattled when bad stuff happens. That’s defense. It’s a lot abt coaching and whether we got solid pieces like the corner from Marshall. He has played a lot of football. He doesn’t have to be an nfl corner to give us what we need.

MIAMI HURRICANES QUOTE OF THE DAY

“I’m feeling really open-minded. With not having a top five anymore and just having those five schools with all of them having a chance, I’m just open-minded right now.”
