"In recent days": What Crystal Palace have now told others about Michael Olise - David Ornstein

Michael Olise has a unique release clause in his contract at Crystal Palace – and the Eagles have now sent out a message to those hoping to sign him.

The likes of Manchester United and Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for the France U21 international, who enjoyed a stunning 2023/24 campaign despite injuries – scoring ten goals and providing six assists in just 19 Premier League appearances.

So, what have Crystal Palace now told others about Michael Olise? Let’s take a look…

Crystal Palace send Michael Olise message

Usually when a player has a release clause with a fixed fee, it is a battle between clubs to convince the player – as there is no need to negotiate a sum with the owning club.

However – in this instance – Crystal Palace have advised interested parties to come through the front door and address them before Olise, according to David Ornstein of The Athletic.

The reliable journalist wrote: “A development in recent days is that interested parties have been advised to strike a deal with Crystal Palace before attempting to agree terms with Olise’s camp.

“Often when there is a release clause, as is the case with Olise, it is done the other way around, but in this instance, suitors will need to go through the front door. That will enable Olise to weigh up whatever options are on the table and then decide which club to choose — or whether to stay at Palace.”

In truth, it’s all quite confusing – Steve Parish has clearly devised a way to make this situation more complicated for interested parties than the mere triggering of a fixed release clause.

That is great for Crystal Palace, although those on the recruitment team at Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge are presumably baffled by the terms of Olise’s mystery release clause, which we have done very well to conceal as a club.

A deal would surely need to happen soon

It would not surprise us if Olise ended up staying at Selhurst Park for another season.

The Crystal Palace No.7 will be involved in the Olympic Games with France this summer after receiving a call from Thierry Henry, as will Jean-Philippe Mateta.

That begins on July 26th, and ends on August 11th – just days before the 2024/25 campaigns kicks off – so unless Olise agrees a deal in the next month or so, it could well become too hectic of a time for him to think about a move.
