Charges dropped on 2 Chinese held for mass theft of sneakers in Tokyo

Prosecutors on Tuesday dropped charges against two Chinese men arrested last month for allegedly stealing 999 pairs of branded sneakers worth 18 million yen ($115,600) from a warehouse in Tokyo earlier this year.

The prosecutors did not disclose the reason for dropping the charges.

The two men allegedly broke into the warehouse on Jan. 5 and 6 in the capital's Itabashi Ward. Tokyo police believe that the majority of the stolen sneakers were shipped to China for resale.

Both men denied the allegations at the time of their arrest.
