Celtic told to sign Scotland international who was linked with Parkhead switch in January

Celtic supporters will be champing at the bit to see why Brendan Rodgers manages to bring in this summer at Parkhead.

The Bhoys have been linked with a wealth of individuals as the window gets set to open later this week, and Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka figures on their list amid reports he could replace Joe Hart between the sticks.

Currently preparing for EURO 2024, the Slovakia international is reportedly free to leave St James’ Park as Eddie Howe closes in on a swoop for Burnley’s James Trafford.

Further up the field, Bournemouth defender Chris Mepham is another target from the Premier League; meanwhile, Rodgers is keen to see Paulo Bernardo and Adam Idah return to Glasgow following their successful loan spells.

Speculation is in full flow at the moment and Motherwell defender Stephen O’Donnell has now put forward an intriguing transfer suggestion for Celtic to consider.

Stephen O’Donnell floats Scott McKenna to Celtic transfer theory

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, O’Donnell has told Celtic to consider Scotland international Scott McKenna, who will be a free agent when his contract at Nottingham Forest expires at the end of this month.

Of course, Celtic were linked with a move for the ex-Aberdeen man back in January before the prospect was eventually ruled out; however, O’Donnell has urged the reigning Scottish Premiership champions to swoop for his services.

He stated: “He is a player I know really well. I am friends with him. He is out of contract, and any international who is out of contract who has played in the Premier League 50 times has got to be interest from both sides of the Old Firm.

“There will be lots of interest from other clubs in other countries, but if they wanted him, they would try and get him. Would I sign him for Celtic? Yeah, probably, but I don’t know what the manager is looking for.”

Scott McKenna would be a solid addition for Celtic

McKenna would add an experienced face to Celtic’s homegrown quota while being a financially advantageous prospective arrival due to being available for nothing.

Given he is left-footed, the Kirriemuir-born man would also add balance to Rodgers’ backline similar to Liam Scales, which can help to progress the ball swiftly during build-up play.

Furthermore, the manager is a known admirer of McKenna following his attempts to sign the centre-back during his first spell at Celtic back in 2019. It will be intriguing to see what the future holds for home this summer.
