Report: What Mikel Arteta and Edu are now thinking after Arsenal suffer transfer blow today

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko won’t be joining Arsenal this summer as he’s set to remain in Germany.

The talented Slovenian star emerged as a top target for Mikel Arteta as the Gunners search for reinforcements upfront

It was even claimed earlier this week that Arsenal were confident they were the favourites to land Sesko. But Fabrizio Romano confirmed today that Benjamin Sesko is set to remain at Leipzig, with a gentleman’s agreement in place for a future exit.

It forces Arteta and sporting director Edu Gaspar back to the drawing board when it comes to attacking targets.

Now, The Mirror has offered some extra insight into the feeling around Arsenal following the Sesko blow.

What Arteta and Edu believe after Arsenal miss out on Sesko

The outlet claims that Arsenal signing a striker this summer is not the ‘be-all and end-all’ for Arteta and Edu.

While the Gunners admire a host of names, including Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyokeres and Victor Osimhen, the club aren’t set on landing a new No.9. That is partly down to Kai Havertz’s brilliant end to his debut season at the Emirates.

Arsenal need a marquee striker signing

While Havertz performed well as Arsenal’s main man up front last term, you can’t help but feel a marquee striker signing would take Arteta’s side to the next level.

Manchester City secured a treble after landing Erling Haaland and Arsenal may need someone who can make a similar impact to finally pip Pep Guardiola’s side to the title.

It’s certainly a significant blow missing out on Sesko but plenty of names remain a possibility for Arsenal.

The likes of Osimhen, Gyokeres or Isak would dramatically improve Arteta’s options up front.
