"They would try": Patrick Vieira now shares what he found hard about working under Steve Parish

Patrick Viera has long been revered in English football and now he’s been discussing his time at Crystal Palace.

In between Roy Hodgson‘s reigns at the helm of the Eagles, Patrick Vieira showed real encouraging signs of taking the club to new heights.

Ultimately he failed to do so which saw the return of Hodgson to Selhurst Park, before ultimately as we all know, Oliver Glasner took charge and looks like he’ll finish what Vieira started.

But speaking recently, Vieira has disclosed some information and stories from his time at Crystal Palace, including one which touches on what he found tricky about working with Steve Parish.

Here’s what he said, and it’s something which will come as no surprise to fans.

What Patrick Vieira found tricky about working with Steve Parish

Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast alongside Gary Neville and co. Vieira disclosed the biggest challenge faced while managing the Eagles.

“One of the challenges at Crystal Palace is that they would try at times to dictate the players that come in and going.

“I think as a manager, I should have responsibility on that because, at the end of the day, I’m the one who is out on the field and has to face the press.”

This isn’t a surprise to hear, with Palace fans long being dismayed at the transfer activity – or lack thereof – at Selhurst Park. One glaring example of an arrival that the manager wouldn’t have picked would be the £20m signing of Dean Henderson last summer – despite the fact he’s ended up doing really well.

However, a big January window and a quick start to this summer could indicate times are changing.

Oliver Glasner is experiencing a very different Parish

While it’s too early to definitively argue that Parish backing Glasner, it certainly looks like that is the case right now.

Two signings look likely to be arriving at Palace sooner than later, with Chadi Riad completing a medical and simply awaiting his move to be finalised and announced.

Following this move closely seems to be Daichi Kamada who is said to have completed the first part of his own medical, and his arrival is one which absolutely will have been asked for by Glasner.

So the early signs are that Parish has changed his tune and is at least allowing Glasner a say in recruitment, but to completely judge this we will have to wait.
