Enzo Maresca already sees ‘exceptional’ Chelsea player as crucial for him next season – journalist

Despite not officially starting work until July, Enzo Maresca has already been hard at work preparing for his new job at Chelsea.

It has been claimed that despite being on holiday, he conducted a deep dive on the club’s games from last season to see what exactly he is getting himself into.

He will no doubt have been looking out for who he believes is going to be key to what he wants to implement at Stamford Bridge, with his style of play at Leicester City revolving around high amounts of possession.

For this reason, it is likely he is looking for players comfortable with the ball at their feet, and this will be the case for his defenders.

This perhaps plays into what Simon Phillips has reported on his Substack that the new boss believes Levi Colwill is going to be a key player for his team.

Enzo Maresca sees Levi Colwill as crucial

He said: “Enzo Maresca sees him as a key player in his team and for his style of football. He wants Colwill as an important player in his setup.”

Reports over the last 24 hours or so have claimed that there is serious interest from Bayern Munich over a potential transfer for him this summer.

However, it is believed thatthe club are adamant that he is not for sale, and the fact that he signed a new long-term contract with the club suggests they have quite a bit of say over what happens next.

Chelsea could sell Trevoh Chalobah

His quality is undoubted after just one season at the club. His passing in particular was described as ‘exceptional’ by pundit Jamie Redknapp.

If a defender is to move on this summer, it can be believed that it would be Trevoh Chalobah who is the one they sacrifice.

It has been reported that the club have doubts that the Englishman can perform in the new manager’s system, and would be open to selling him.
