'Achievable': Sheffield Wednesday handed early Championship prediction for 2024/25 under Danny Rohl

Sheffield Wednesday have been given an early prediction for the next 2024/25 Championship campaign under Danny Rohl.

Sheffield Wednesday will at least be hoping to avoid a repeat of last season in the upcoming 2024/25 Championship campaign.

The Owls finished in 20th place of the table and scathed off relegation by just three points, which in the end was a miraculous achievement.

Form under Danny Rohl in the second half of last season suggests that the Owls could drastically improve on their league finish next time round.

The form table for the last 25 games of the 2023/24 season placed Sheffield Wednesday in 8th, whilst the form table for the last five games had the Owls in 2nd.

But with loan players having retuned to their parent clubs and names like Di’Shon Bernard facing an uncertain summer, plenty of work is needed in the transfer market to give Rohl the tools needed to challenge next time round.

Alex Miller issues Sheffield Wednesday Championship prediction for 2024/25

Speaking on ‘Sheffield Wednesday: The Great Escape’ on Shots!TV, journalist Alex Miller gave his verdict on the upcoming 2024/25 campaign.

He said: “It’s an exciting time, all of a sudden for Sheffield Wednesday. I think with Danny Rohl tied down to a new three-year contract, the ceiling has gone up on what can be achieved at the club.

Barry Bannan and Liam Palmer have obviously been tied down for new deals as well. The core of the squad will be what it’ll be.

“Hopefully they can get more contracts done, but in terms of transfers, players want to play for someone like Danny Rohl, and it could be a very busy but exciting time.

“Danny’s spoken about a top 10 finish perhaps, and with the right recruitment, I think that could well be achievable.”

3 things Sheffield Wednesday need to do in the transfer market this summer

There’s a number of issues in the squad that Rohl needs to fix, with the first looking like it’s close to being sorted; the goalkeeper.

James Beadle has been tipped to return and Ben Hamer looks set to join on a free transfer, with Cameron Dawson tipped to leave.

The next is more bodies in central midfield. Will Vaulks is set for talks with Oxford United leaving Bannan as the only natural central midfielder; not only is depth needed here, but a bit more youth would give Wednesday a nice blend of players.

Then there’s issues up front. With Ike Ugbo having returned to Troyes, for the time being, and Josh Windass currently out of contract, Wednesday really lack firepower.

Bailey Cadamarteri may well be better-served out on loan too, so Sheffield Wednesday desperately need to add strikers to their ranks this summer, and ones that fit the Rohl style of play.

If the Owls can sort these issues, they may well be able to achieve a top 10 finish next season.
