'Keep an eye': Champions League club join Sheffield Wednesday in race for 24 G/A gem - journalist

Sheffield Wednesday could now face tough competition to sign one of their attacking targets.

Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of re-signing Ike Ugbo are looking unlikely due to his potential price tag, encouraging the club to look elsewhere for a new striker.

Mallik Wilks will surely be on his way out this summer after only scoring three goals in 42 appearances, leaving Michael Smith and Bailey Cadamarteri as the only remaining options up top.

As a result, Wednesday have begun their search for a new No.9 and have already been linked with former target Mika Biereth.

The Owls expressed interest in the Arsenal youngster in January, but he ended up joining Sturm Graz instead.

After picking up 15 goals and nine assists in 37 appearances last term, Biereth has now attracted interest from a number of clubs.

Sturm Graz are eager to bring the 21-year-old back to Austria, while Wednesday are hoping to be successful at their second attempt at signing him.

However, they now face competition from another Champions League club in their pursuit.

Club Brugge are now targeting Mika Biereth

Journalist Sacha Tavolieri wrote on X: “Blauw&Zwart keep an eye and following situation of Mika Biereth. International U21 Danemark Striker of #ArsenalFC has been watched multiple times with Sturm Graz these last months. NO offer yet. To substitute Igor Thiago, Club Brugge will sign a striker this summer.”

Sheffield Wednesday are competing with Champions League football

Both Sturm Graz and Club Brugge finished top of their respective leagues and could offer Biereth Champions League football next season.

If he is able to play regularly at either of those clubs, then it wouldn’t be surprising if Arsenal preferred a move that would see their striker play at the highest level of European football.

Joining Sheffield Wednesday could potentially see him help the club reach the play-offs, but a move to the Championship would surely only be tempting if he wanted more experience in English football.

Danny Rohl will definitely play a key role in Wednesday signing any quality players this summer, but he would have to be extremely persuasive to see the club beat Sturm Graz and Club Brugge to his signature.
