Explained: How much profit Crystal Palace stand to make as West Ham target £30m move

Crystal Palace could be in line for a handy cash influx with a sell-on clause potentially triggered this summer thanks to West Ham interest.

This summer is set to be a busy one for Crystal Palace and already two arrivals look imminent, while some big exits are hot topics.

Chadi Riad is awaiting his announcement as the new centre-half at Selhurst Park, likely becoming the replacement for Marc Guehi should the Englishman end up departing this summer after the Euros.

Closely following this deal appears to be Daichi Kamada‘s arrival, with it being reported that he’s completed the first part of his medical prior to joining on a free.

But it isn’t just moves directly involving the Eagles which are worth taking note of this summer with one move involving West Ham potentially being huge for Palace.

West Ham want to sign Jake O’Brien this summer

Last summer, Crystal Palace allowed Jake O’Brien to depart Selhurst Park in order to head to Lyon where he quickly became a first-team player.

The Irishman impressed during his maiden campaign in France and has now been attracting interest from several clubs including Premier League rivals West Ham United.

The Hammers are reported to be keen on the centre-half, with a reported £30m price tag being set on him by Lyon according to Alan Nixon’s Patreon.

West Ham isn’t the only club interested, as Champions League finalists Borussia Dortmund are also showing interest as they target a player who can replace Mats Hummels in the long-term.

But after selling him last summer for what now looks extremely cheap, Palace could yet stand to gain a cash boost from the sale.

How Palace stand to benefit from Jake O’Brien to West Ham

With Palace having let O’Brien go for just £855k last summer, the Eagles stand to make millions from the sale by having a 15 per cent sell-on clause included in the sale, as per South London Press.

Speaking with TBR Football Finance Expert Adam Williams, we’ve uncovered just how much profit this leaves Palace potentially set to make if a £30m goes through.

“Palace will be entitled to just under £4.3m if this deal goes through.

“It’s a smart business practice to include these kinds of clauses. It’s effectively passive income.

“Interestingly, John Textor could have a role to play here too.

“Lyon are one of the clubs in his Eagle Football Group, so he is effectively shifting money around the multi-club group.”

This means Palace would get a profit of over £3.44m, which is an amount which could prove useful in the upcoming transfer window.
