Report: Newcastle United have a plan to get rid of £2.5m player this summer

Newcastle United are looking to get rid of Ryan Fraser this summer, and he could be followed out the door by another unwanted player.

The Magpies are currently looking to tidy up their squad, having recently announced that the likes of Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett would be leaving when their contracts expire.

They are no longer needed at St James’ Park, and the same goes for Ryan Fraser. He spent last season on loan at Southampton after a falling out with Eddie Howe, and looks likely to return to St Mary’s on a permanent transfer.

It has been reported that Fraser has already agreed personal terms with Southampton, who now need to agree a fee with Newcastle. Given how eager the Magpies are to get rid of the winger, that should not be an issue.

Newcastle United have a plan for Isaac Hayden

Newcastle are planning to get rid of Fraser, and are hoping to do the same with Isaac Hayden. However, his departure will not be as straightforward.

That is because the midfielder, who spent the second half of last season on loan at QPR, has two years left to run on his Toon contract. Hayden has a deal until the summer of 2026, meaning it will be very difficult to sell him.

However, the club appear to have a plan.

That is according to the Northern Echo, who report that Newcastle are hoping to reach an agreement with Hayden that would see them pay up the rest of his contract.

Isaac Hayden needs a new permanent home

Hopefully that proves to be the case, as it is obvious that Hayden, who cost £2.5million in 2016, needs a fresh start and somewhere new to call home. But it is understandable that he would not want to give up the financial guarantees that he signed up for until 2026.

Therefore, finding an agreement that would see him effectively become a free agent is probably for the best. It would allow him to receive compensation, whilst also putting him in a better position to find a new club.

With a lucrative Premier League contract not holding him back, it should be easier for Hayden to find a new employer. There is no denying that he is a talented player, and could certainly be a valuable asset to a club in the Championship.

In terms of his Newcastle career, the Magpies have simply outgrown him. While Hayden was once an important player in midfield, now Eddie Howe has elite level talents such as Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali.

Having not played in black and white since December 2021, it is essential that Hayden finds a new home. He has had three loan spells away from St James’ Park, but another temporary exit is not going to cut it.
