A bold new look: How Wolves could line up in the 2024/25 campaign if transfer rumours are true - opinion

How Wolves could line up for the 2024/25 season if each major transfer rumour is true about the squad.

In each transfer window, changes are expected to happen to Wolves’ first-team squad. While many only see a few incomings and departures, some can oversee wholesale changes.

This summer will be Gary O’Neil’s first as Wolves manager, giving him the opportunity to be able to shape the squad in his image. While financial restrictions may limit possible additions, it is the Englishman’s best opportunity to build his ideal XI so far at Molineux.

With Wolves rumours currently rife, there are plenty of players who have been regularly linked to and from the club.

In this article, we highlight the biggest and most likely signings and departures to predict how Wolves may line up for the 2024/25 campaign.

First off, starting in between the sticks will be a new number one for Wolves. Jose Sa has long been linked with an exit with Wolves’ coaching staff holding reservations about the Portuguese international.

Replacing him could be Alvaro Valles. The Spaniard is approaching his last year at Las Palmas. This could lead to a summer sale, with Wolves purchasing Alvaro Valles for £10 million.

RB – Nelson Semedo

Another player who has been linked away this transfer window is Nelson Semedo. The right-back only has a year left on his contract after his two-year extension was triggered last summer.

However, despite the rumours, O’Neil has stated his desire to keep Semedo for the upcoming campaign, especially after he won the Player’s Player of the Season.

CB – Yerson Mosquera

Sneaking into the starting XI is Yerson Mosquera. The Colombian has spent recent seasons out on loan, playing for Villarreal in 2024.

After a successful spell away from the club, O’Neil has expressed his desire to give Mosquera a chance in pre-season.

With Max Kilman consistently being linked away to Man United and West Ham, Mosquera could be a ready-made replacement for the captain.

CB – Craig Dawson

Keeping his spot in the team is Craig Dawson. The defender had a great 2023/24 season until it was cut short with an injury. Given the centre-half has just turned 34 years old, it is unlikely that he will be moving on this summer.

LB – Rayan Ait-Nouri

Wolves may consider themselves lucky if they manage to keep hold of Rayan Ait-Nouri by the end of the window. The Algerian was on fire in the closing months of the campaign despite the club’s drop-off in form.

This saw interest from the likes of Man City for Ait-Nouri in May. However, these rumours has since died down in recent weeks which could see Wolves hang onto their star man.

CM – Mario Lemina

Another player who was on fire during the 2023/24 campaign, Mario Lemina has quickly become a fan-favourite at the club. This resulted in the midfielder winning the Supporters Player of the Season due to his efforts.

Lemina has been linked away with a move to Galatasaray in recent weeks but this has not resulted in any major movements in the transfer market and it is likely that he will stay.

CM – Tommy Doyle

The most recent Wolves signing, O’Neil purchased Tommy Doyle permanently after a successful loan spell at the club. The midfielder has constantly impressed which could see him push for a permanent spot in the starting XI.

With Joao Gomes also being linked with a move to Man United, it wouldn’t be unsurprising to see Doyle become a permanent starter next season.

CAM – Matheus Cunha

One man who thankfully has had little to no links away from the club is Matheus Cunha. The Brazilian maestro has been terrific for Wolves and easily one of the biggest threats the Old Gold poses.

As it stands, there is nothing to suggest that Cunha won’t be back in the starting XI come August.

RW – Rodrigo Gomes

Another new addition that looks increasingly likely is Rodrigo Gomes. The versatile wideman can play in multiple positions but is most suited to the right wing.

Wolves have now had a bid accepted for Gomes, with the Portuguese youngster looking likely to be the first new face at Molineux this summer.

However, it remains to be seen if the 20-year-old will act as a replacement for Pedro Neto. The winger has consistently been linked away for the past season and looks the most likely star to depart. Arsenal are reportedly interested in making Neto a summer signing for the Gunners.

ST – Che Adams

Joining Gomes in attack is Che Adams. Wolves have pursued the Southampton striker for some time and missed out on his signature last summer.

With Adams set to become a free agent next month, Wolves have now offered him a contract in order to lure him to Molineux for next season.

LW – Hwang Hee-Chan

The final player in attack is the ever-reliable Hwang Hee-Chan. The South Korean international is arguably one of the least likely players to leave the club this summer.

Hwang only signed a new deal with Wolves in December and had his best season at the club last campaign.
