Report: Wolves now showing interest in 24-goal player Bruno Lage wanted to bring to Molineux

Wolves are reportedly showing interest in a player Bruno Lage was regularly linked with a move for during his time at the club.

There has been good news for Wanderers fans over the last 24 hours or so, with the club reaching an agreeing with Braga to sign Rodrigo Gomes.

Gomes, 20, is set to complete his £12.7 million move to Molineux this week, and fans are excited about his capture.

It is going to be a big summer, and fans are hoping that several more will be following Gomes through the door.

And it looks as though Wolves are now taking an interest in a player who has been linked with the club previously…

It is being claimed by Turkish outlet Takvim that Michy Batshuayi is on Wolves’ radar, with his contract about to expire at Fenerbahce.

Apparently though, Batshuayi could yet extend his deal – the club do hold an option to do that by a further 12 months.

He has been there since September 2022 and has actually got a pretty good goalscoring record, having bagged 44 goals in 75 games. 24 of those goals came last season.

Batshuayi, 30, is a player who has been linked with a move to Wolves several times before.

It was claimed back in April 2022, while Bruno Lage was the head coach at Molineux, that Wolves were considering a swoop for the Belgium international. This was back when he was with Chelsea.

It was then suggested Wolves actually made an offer to sign Batshuayi that following summer.

In the end, Lage never got his man and was sacked as Wolves manager in October 2022, after his side had picked up just three points in the Premier League and scored just three goals.

Low-risk, but uninspiring

Batshuayi had a decent season in 2023/24 and his record at Fenerbahce is good.

He would be something of a low-risk signing for Wolves given he would not cost anything in terms of a transfer fee. He’s also played in the Premier League before with Chelsea and Crystal Palace.

However, the club moving for him isn’t likely to strike a chord with too many Wolves fans. It is a little underwhelming.

Signing a new striker this summer is really important and many feel the club should be pumping most of the budget into this very crucial position. If Wolves are going to spend big on any one position, it should be that.
