Report: 'Amazing' Chelsea player is excited about working with Enzo Maresca despite exit rumours

Despite there being a lot of talk in the media about his future, one Chelsea player is reportedly excited about the prospect of working with Enzo Maresca next season.

Enzo Maresca, 44, is the new Chelsea head coach, with his new role officially beginning on 1 July.

He coached Leicester City to promotion from the Championship last season, sticking by his possession-based style of football at all times as well.

So, what can he do under more pressure next year in the dugout at Stamford Bridge?

Chelsea player excited to work with Enzo Maresca

The Evening Standard claims that Chelsea defender Levi Colwill is excited about working with Maresca.

It is explained that the 21-year-old centre-half plans to use the disappointment of missing out on England’s Euro 2024 squad to motivate him to hit the ground running with Chelsea during pre-season this summer.

Interestingly, this report comes at a time when the centre-back’s future is a hot topic for discussion in the transfer rumour mill.

Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg reported via X on Monday that Bayern Munich is “seriously considering” Chelsea star Colwill as a transfer target.

But journalist Fabrizio Romano followed that up on X by claiming that Chelsea have no plans to sell Colwill despite interest from several top clubs.

Levi Colwill can thrive next season

Colwill should be overjoyed by the fact that Maresca is Chelsea’s new head coach.

The Blues have appointed a tactician determined to play his style of football, which centres around keeping possession.

On paper, Colwill looks a natural fit to shine in the starting XI next season.

He gives a lovely balance as a left-footed centre-half, plus he’s got an excellent range of passing and tick so many boxes as a modern day defender.

Speaking via Football.London last October, Mauricio Pochettino described Colwill as an “amazing” player with great levels of maturity. The best should be yet to come from him, too!
