‘A little bit stupid’: Jamie O’Hara rages at what Gareth Southgate has done with Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool are going to be well-represented at Euro 2024, with 10 Anfield aces representing their countries.

The major tournament is rapidly approaching, with hosts Germany kicking things off against Scotland on 14 June.

Not long after, England get their tournament underway against Serbia, with plenty of pressure on Gareth Southgate to get things right from the very start.

The manager has been working hard with his players in the build-up to the competition, having recently finalised his squad.

And two Liverpool men have made the cut, with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez selected for Three Lions duty.

Jamie O’Hara angry with Gareth Southgate over Trent Alexander-Arnold

The former has dominated the headlines going into the tournament, with a discussion ongoin about his best position.

The Liverpool star has played at right-back for his club over the years, but has played in midfield for his country in recent times.

And that is a situation that has angered talkSPORT pundit Jamie O’Hara, who is not happy about Southgate playing players out of position.

“How are we going into a tournament talking about players who are not even playing in their positions?” O’Hara said on talkSPORT.

“Phil Foden doesn’t play on the left, Trent doesn’t play in midfield, Kieran Trippier doesn’t play left-back.

“Seriously, come on, it’s getting a little bit stupid. You’ve got top players, just play them in their positions, it’s not hard is it?”

Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy disagree over Liverpool star

O’Hara also expressed his wish to see Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher get the nod over Alexander-Arnold at Euro 2024.

The pundit got into a debate with fellow talkSPORT pundit Jason Cundy, with the latter suggesting that the Liverpool star’s passing ability make him a strong candidate to start against Serbia.

“It sounds like he might play Trent in there,” O’Hara noted. “Conor Gallagher has been playing week in, week out for Chelsea for midfield, I like him.”

Cundy replied: “He wants a ball player in there,” with O’Hara saying: “Declan Rice is a ball player.”

Cundy responded: “Gallagher has a lot of qualities, but Trent’s passes… the way he can strike those passes left and right.

O’Hara disagreed: “No, he gives the ball away in midfield. Trent will give the ball away in midfield.”

The former Tottenham midfielder certainly isn’t the only one to warn Southgate about using Alexander-Arnold in that role, with Manchester United legend Roy Keane telling the manager that he cannot play the Liverpool man there in the big games.

Jeff Stelling has also weighed in on the debate, and wants Southgate to play the right-back in midfield in their Euro 2024 opener.
