Report: Newcastle have just made a transfer move which looks like a 'blow' for Arsenal

Newcastle United and Arsenal have been closely linked during the early stages of this summer.

The Gunners, who came second in the Premier League this season, have shown an interest in two Newcastle United stars, as they aim to close the gap between themselves and Manchester City.

There have been rumours of a move for Bruno Guimaraes, who has a £100million release clause that can be activated right now. The 26-year-old has been aware that Arsenal want to sign him, but they are not expected to activate his release clause. In turn, that means they will not be signing Bruno, as Newcastle have no plans to negotiate his departure once the clause expires.

And the same goes for Alexander Isak, who has been even more heavily linked with a move to Arsenal. That is because of their need for a striker, with Mikel Arteta making it clear that he needs a more reliable goalscorer.

Isak would be exactly that, but he is staying at Newcastle United. It has been reported that it would take an offer of £180million for the Magpies to even consider selling, while Isak has admitted himself that he wants to stay at St James’ Park.

Two Newcastle players are not joining Arsenal, while someone who the Gunners were hoping to flog to Eddie Howe may no longer be of interest.

Newcastle United move should end their interest in Aaron Ramsdale

Last year, Newcastle United tried to sign Kieran Tierney, only to bring in Lewis Hall instead.

This year, Newcastle United have been linked with signing Aaron Ramsdale, but look likely to sign James Trafford instead.

It has been reported that the Magpies have agreed personal terms with the Burnley goalkeeper, as Eddie Howe aims to bring in an understudy for Nick Pope.

That represents a change of plan, as Howe initially wanted someone to compete with Pope. That led to rumours of a move for Aaron Ramsdale, with the 26-year-old viewed as a player who Howe wanted at St James’ Park.

There were even claims that Newcastle were willing to pay £15million, which seemed staggeringly low for a player of Ramsdale’s calibre.

Newcastle’s change of plan is a blow for Arsenal

But now there will be no move at all, with the Athletic reporting that Newcastle are no longer interested in the former Bournemouth and Sheffield United stopper.

They add that Newcastle have now changed their goalkeeping stance, which is why a more outright number two like Trafford is being targeted.

The Athletic state that this is a blow for Arsenal, who need to sell players this summer.

They will have been hoping to sell Ramsdale to Newcastle, but it looks like that will not be happening. That will be massively disappointing for them, as the England international is someone who they desperately need to move on given the fact that David Raya has replaced him as their number one.

Now they will need to find another suitor, as Newcastle aim to strike an agreement with Burnley to sign James Trafford.

If Arsenal thought the Magpies were going to do them a favour then they can think again…
