Manchester United have taken their time to review the managerial role and the job Erik ten Hag is doing, now finally a decision has been made.
Erik ten Hag won the FA Cup for Manchester United nearly three weeks ago, but since then he has had to endure relentless speculation over his future at the club.
An eighth-place finish in the league left many in agreement that a replacement was in order, however after winning silverware a healthy chunk of the fanbase was eager to see the Dutchman awarded another season to prove himself.
Whatever decision Ineos made, half the fanbase would be happy, while the other half would be livid, but at least a decision has been made as with David Ornstein dropping the news of a decision being made.
The decision ultimately was to keep the Dutchman in place, and it’s a decision which has gone down very well with the fanbase.
How Manchester United fans are reacting to Erik ten Hag
After the news broke, as expected the fanbase was all over social media reacting, with the response being overwhelmingly positive, with some still being mindful of the improvements needed.
One fan page epitomised this, writing: “Genuinely happy right now because INEOS ended up choosing common sense.”
Another had similarly strong beliefs over it being the correct call: “Erik Ten Hag under the direction of a specialist footballing structure will be an overwhelming success. I am absolutely adamant about this.”
“Erik ten Hag Won”, wrote a third simply.
A fourth agreed, but had a warning: “It’s the correct decision, but serious work to be done on and off the pitch.”
One fan threw shade at Ineos for their long decision process but still agreed that it was the right call: “Shame on INEOS for how long this took. ETH deserves better, still very happy he’s staying though.”
A sixth added: “Delighted he stays. They needed to back him. That said, he’ll be under huge pressure next season.”
A seventh is only looking on the bright side: “We’re gonna do some special things next season under Erik Ten Hag…”
While a final fan passionately wrote: “So happy for him. He is the right man to move us forward under a proper system above him. 2 trophies in 2 seasons with zero going on above him is brilliant. Fa cup success with 1000 injuries too. Let’s go, Erik”.
So with the overwhelming reaction from fans being positive, Ineos will be delighted and now desperate to get on with the summer.
Decision made at the perfect time for the club
While there has understandably been frustration from the fans over a lack of decision, this proves how little Ineos were letting leak in comparison to the previous regime.
Now it’s been decided completely and chances are it has been for a little while with new contract talks now underway, which could be what led to the silence.
But importantly, we know who the manager will be next season two days before the summer 2024 transfer window officially opens.
Now, the club can get stuck into transfers and fix this team’s several weak points.
