Report: 'Special' player has grown frustrated at his club ahead of potential Chelsea move

Chelsea are unlikely to find it hard to convince one of their targets to join them this summer.

The Blues remain in the market for a new centre-forward after failing to land RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Chelsea were thought to be extremely keen on the 21-year-old, with journalist Simon Phillips having claimed that they were willing to trigger his release clause.

However, Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Sesko could possibly end up staying at Leipzig until 2026 as he closes in on a new contract.

Chelsea have now turned elsewhere, and success in this pursuit looks more guaranteed.

Stamford Bridge should appeal to Chelsea target

With Sesko remaining at the Red Bull Arena, Chelsea have moved on to another target.

On Tuesday, The Guardian reported that the Blues have held discussions with Aston Villa over signing their striker Jhon Duran.

The outlet claims that Duran has been frustrated with having to play second fiddle to Ollie Watkins, so a move to Stamford Bridge this summer may very well appeal to him.

Since then, journalist Guillermo Arango has claimed that Chelsea have already reached an agreement with Villa to sign the 20-year-old.

Last season, Duran scored eight goals in 37 appearances for Unai Emery’s side.

Can Jhon Duran become the first-choice striker at Chelsea?

At Villa, it is just not possible for Duran to be the No.1 striker in the team, despite Emery hailing him as a “special” footballer.

The Villans already possess Watkins, who proved that he is one of the best No.9s in the Premier League last season.

In total, Watkins scored 19 goals and provided 13 assists. Only Cole Palmer managed to come up with more goal contributions (33) in the English top flight.

At Chelsea, though, it could be a much different story. Nicolas Jackson did not do too badly leading the line for the Blues last term, netting 14 times. However, the Senegal international is not a world-class forward yet. You could see that from how many chances he missed.

With a good run of form, then, Duran could easily end up becoming Enzo Maresca‘s main striker next season.
