Premier League club have now agreed personal terms with £15m player linked to Chelsea - Fabrizio Romano

Chelsea beat Newcastle United to the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo last week.

Chelsea and Newcastle both registered an interest in Adarabioyo after he decided not to sign a new contract at Fulham, and Fabrizio Romano explained how the former won the race for his signature.

The transfer expert has now been reporting on the future of another player who has been linked to both Premier League clubs recently.

Following the arrival of Adarabioyo, it is already shaping up to be a very busy summer for Chelsea.

There could also be several exits at Stamford Bridge, with Armando Broja currently being linked to Everton, for example.

Newcastle agree personal terms with player on Chelsea’s radar

Newcastle are not going to lose out to Chelsea twice it seems, though it remains to be seen how serious the Blues’ interest is in this particular player.

According to Romano, the Magpies have agreed personal terms with Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford.

They are now expected to make an initial £15m offer for the 21-year-old.

It has been claimed that Enzo Maresca wants Trafford at Chelsea, but the Blues are yet to make a serious move for the England U21 international.

Newcastle a more likely destination for James Trafford than Chelsea

It is not too late for Chelsea to strike a deal with Trafford themselves and make an offer for him.

However, it does not seem necessary. The Burnley man does not look like he will be an upgrade on what Maresca already has.

For example, last season, Trafford’s save percentage in the Premier League was 65.7% (FBref). It was the same as Djordje Petrovic’s and lower than Robert Sanchez’s 70.5%.

Again, then, Trafford is not better than what Chelsea already have, or at least not in the shot-stopping department. If he was, they probably would have made an offer for him by now.

Following Burnley’s relegation to the Championship, the former Manchester City man is clearly available.
