Football: Japan beat U.S. in U-23 friendly for Olympics

Japan defeated the United States 2-0 in a men's under-23 friendly football match Tuesday in Kansas City.

Shota Fujio scored a sixth-minute penalty and second-half substitute Mao Hosoya doubled the lead in the 69th minute at Children's Mercy Park in Japan's last U-23 match before their Olympic squad is announced on July 3.

The United States have also qualified for the Paris Olympics.

Japan will play another friendly on July 17 against France in Toulon.

Japan have been drawn in Group D at the Olympics, along with Paraguay, Mali and Israel.
