Report: Celtic could make move to sign 'really good' Euro 2024 striker on bargain deal in January

With Euro 2024 kicking off on Friday night, you have to think that the Celtic scouting department will be keeping a close eye on the tournament for any potential players that could spring up.

Brendan Rodgers has already been linked with two players heading to the tournament afterNewcastle United’s Martin Dubravka and Salernitana defender Flavius Daniliuc came to light yesterday.

So it is clear that even before the big tournament kick-off, Celtic are already being linked with players making their way to Germany this week.

And it seems those links are going to continue after an update emerged last night on an international striker Celtic is also said to be casting their eye over.

When Celtic will make their move for Tommy Conway

We discussed yesterday how Tommy Conway is expected to leave Bristol City after rejecting a new deal at the Ashton Gate club.

And now, according to the Daily Record, Celtic will make their move in January but only if he decides to run his contract down.

Described as ‘very good‘ by current boss, Liam Manning, Conway’s contract expires at the end of next season and Brendan Rodgers could get his man for as little as £300,000 compensation due to cross-border transfer rules.

Conway was tipped to join Celtic back in April after Rotherham manager, Steve Evans, said that the ‘gifted’ Bristol City striker might want to join the club.

And now, Conway has been thrust into the limelight after his 12-goal season, alongside an injury to Lyndon Dykes, made him a late addition to Steve Clarke’s Euro 2024 squad.

And therein lies a problem for Celtic. If the club is set on waiting until January before making their move, should the 21-year-old get his chance at the tournament and shine, he will have plenty of suitors lining up to take him away from the Championship club and scupper Celtic’s hopes of a bargain deal.
