Report: Why Benjamin Sesko decided to stay at RB Leipzig instead of joining Chelsea

Chelsea will not be signing RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko when the transfer window opens.

Chelsea were interested in bringing Benjamin Sesko to Stamford Bridge, with it being claimed that they were prepared to trigger his release clause.

However, the 21-year-old has decided to stay at RB Leipzig and sign a new contract, as first revealed by the reliable Fabrizio Romano.

Arsenal were also said to be keen on Sesko, so the Slovenian had good options this summer.

In the end, though, neither the Gunners nor their London rivals could persuade Sesko to leave the Red Bull Arena.

Benjamin Sesko staying at RB Leipzig

For most players, the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal are not easy clubs to turn down. However, that was not the case for Sesko.

According to The Telegraph, while Sesko was a target for the two English giants, the Slovenian preferred to stay at Leipzig for another year.

The outlet claims that Sesko feels that his development will be best served by remaining in Germany for at least another 12 months.

It is a blow for Chelsea and Arsenal, though the former already look to have moved on.

They have now reportedly made a move for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran.

Chelsea should make move for Julian Alvarez

With Sesko no longer an option, Chelsea should strongly consider making a swoop for Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez.

He has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge, though there is a fear that he would cost too much.

Alvarez is quite a flexible forward and has the potential to score goals for Chelsea. The Argentine netted 19 times in all competitions for City last season.

It seems Duran is the man who Chelsea are going to end up with, though, if they do decide to sign a new striker in the transfer window. If you are a Chelsea supporter, it is probably a lacklustre name, especially compared to the likes of Sesko and Alvarez.
