Sources: The likelihood Erik ten Hag will be given a brand new contract at Man Utd after his expires in 2025, and what he wants

Erik ten Hag is to remain the manager of Manchester United. But will he get a new contract?

News broke on Tuesday night that the Manchester United manager would be staying in the job, after months of speculation that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos mob were set to shun him from the role.

Now, Manchester United can look ahead to the 24/25 season with optimism, and more so security that they have a guaranteed man at the helm.

But, this begs the question, will the former Ajax man be trusted to lead United even further down the line?

Erik ten Hag current Manchester United contract, Explained

Old Trafford chiefs hired Ten Hag on a contract until June 2025 with the option for a further 12 months. This means the very latest he can stay in the job in his current situation would be June 2026.

However, this would require the owners to trigger the one-year extension, which if he doesn’t perform in the 24/25 campaign – will be less than likely.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the Red Devils’ previous full-time manager but left the club in November 2021. Michael Carrick also took charge temporarily until Ralf Rangnick arrived.

It is now believed that United will enter talks with the 54-year-old for the prospect of a brand new long-term deal around Carrington. But is this really the case?

Will Erik ten Hag be given a new contract at Old Trafford?

The decision keeps Ten Hag in the role at United until at the very least next season, but he’ll want to secure his long-term future, no doubt.

HITC Football’s Graeme Bailey confirmed this United in Focus, that the rumours are true that contract talks would now be held. He also believes there is a decent chance they may come to fruition.

He said: “Well, he wants it and they have agreed to talk to him…that is all true.

“I think there is a decent chance, but given how unsure Ineos where – I believe even he knows that even with a new deal, he will be on a short leash and wouldn’t shock me if United try and wait until after the summer – but he wants it before that.”

There will be some huge decisions coming up in the future, even if the largest of the summer has already been made. Ten Hag stays at United, but for how long? That remains to be seen.
