'Really interesting': Journalist urges Sheffield Wednesday to sign free-agent who 'ticks lots of boxes'

Sheffield Wednesday have been told they could make a very ‘positive move’ in signing one ‘outstanding’ player.

Sheffield Wednesday have been linked with a number of players since they confirmed their Championship status last month.

The Owls are set to snap up Ben Hamer on a free transfer, while Yan Valery has reportedly agreed personal terms over a return to Hillsborough.

Wednesday are quickly kickstarting their overhaul and look to be building a Championship-ready squad, while they are now said to be nearing a deal for a Premier League player.

Reports today have emerged claiming that Wednesday are closing in on a shock deal to sign Sheffield United defender Max Lowe.

The full-back is set to become a free agent at the end of the month and could now make the short trip from Bramall Lane to Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday could now make a ‘really interesting’ deal

The potential switch has already split opinions across the city, however journalist Joe Crann has insisted that it would be a ‘positive move’ for Danny Rohl‘s side.

Writing on X, Crann said: “The Max Lowe thing is really interesting… Obviously a lot will be made of the Sheff Utd stuff, but if you take everything else into account and took that element away I reckon it’d be seen as a completely positive move for #SWFC. Ticks lots of boxes.”

Max Lowe could be a real bargain for the Owls

Max Lowe wasn’t really given much of chance to impress at Sheffield United, while his injury record also stinted his progress at the club.

He already has experience in the Premier League and Championship, and while he did play for the Blades, it is a level of quality that Wednesday would have been amazed to attract just a few months ago.

The ‘outstanding‘ 27-year-old will provide some healthy competition for Marvin Johnson, while his versatility can come in really handy for Rohl.

On a free transfer, it seems like a risk-free move that is certainly worth a shot.

While the club has previously come under criticism for not spending money, if the Owls are able to sign Hamer, Lowe and James Beadle (loan) for nothing then it could be some very positive business.
