'Unbelievable': Micah Richards thought £61m striker Spurs reportedly want to sign would be the next Haaland

Micah Richards has now admitted that he thought a Tottenham Hotspur linked striker would actually end up being as good as Erling Haaland.

It would be a surprise if Ange Postecoglou wasn’t provided with a new forward this summer, someone capable of scoring regularly.

Right now, Spurs’ front line is fluid, fairly well balanced, and very much in Postecoglou’s image.

And if reports are to be believed, Tottenham want to recruit a wide forward with the versatility to play centrally this summer – perhaps someone similar to Son Heung-min.

But given that Son and Richarlison already present that sort of profile, some at the club may feel the temptation to seek a more reliable and clinical centre-forward, a more old-school type if you will.

And that may explain why Tottenham were recently linked with a £61m move for Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic this summer.

24-year-old Vlahovic scored 18 goals for Juve across all competitions last season, a potent finisher.

Although, when speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast, Micah Richards wasn’t necessarily too impressed with Vlahovic’s recent progress.

Micah Richards thought Tottenham linked Dusan Vlahovic was the new Erling Haaland

Speaking on the podcast, Richards said he thought Vlahovic could do it all whilst he was at Fiorentina, a striker headed to the top of the game.

But he admitted he’s now changed his mind: “Vlahovic, he was one at Fiorentina absolutely ripping it up and then he got his big move to Juventus and it didn’t materialise in the way he wanted to.

“I thought he was going to be the next Haaland, he was unbelievable.

“Goals with his left and right foot, could run in behind, really good technique but it’s a different beast at Juve.

“He still scores goals but he’s not at the levels he was at Fiorentina.”

Of course, if Tottenham are seriously interested, there’s no reason to think that Vlahovic couldn’t still return to that path of progression.

The Serbian will get his chance to prove his ability when he faces England at Euro 2024 on Sunday, aiming to add to his 13 international goals.

Of course, Spurs’ James Maddison won’t feature in the game after being cut from Gareth Southgate’s squad.

And Gary Neville has just admitted that he disagrees with what Maddison did after his England snub.
