Report: Arsenal 'open' to selling player Gary Neville labelled a 'problem' if the right offer arrives

As a result of their summer transfer plans, Arsenal would be willing to sell a player who has previously been indispensable for Mikel Arteta.

It’s slightly too strong to suggest that there will be a squad overhaul at the Emirates this summer, but Edu will oversee several moves in both directions.

Arteta is thought to have briefed three priority signings this summer: a striker, a central midfielder and a new left-back.

But should the club see the necessary departures, they could also then strengthen on the wing, and perhaps find better cover at centre-back.

And when you consider that Eddie Nketiah, Emile Smith Rowe and Aaron Ramsdale are all strongly linked with departures, it really could be quite busy.

But in order to bridge the gap to Manchester City, Arsenal can’t stand still – because Pep Guardiola’s side certainly won’t be.

TBR Football recently shared that Guardiola has asked his City bosses to buy Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich this summer – delineating what Arsenal are up against.

And that being said, it’s a former City player who Arsenal are now willing to sell.

Arsenal willing to sell Gabriel Jesus if the right buyer comes forward

According to a new report by The Athletic, Arsenal would need to sell one of Eddie Nketiah or Gabriel Jesus were a new striker signed this summer.

Arsenal are very interested in RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, would would become Kai Havertz’s understudy were he signed.

Of course, that would leave Jesus as third choice, and Nketiah minuteless as fourth.

And although Nketiah would seem the obvious departure in that scenario, Arsenal are willing to listen to the right offers for Jesus too, according to the aforementioned report.

Jesus remains a strong option on the wing should a player like Sesko arrive, but that’s unlikely to be a squad role that satisfies the ambitious Brazilian.

It’s a peculiar situation with Arsenal and Jesus, a player who remains one of the most talented at the club.

But perhaps April’s defeat to Aston Villa best highlighted Arsenal’s predicament, a match in which Gary Neville thought Jesus was a ‘problem’.

Jesus started as Arteta’s number nine but failed to show a clinical edge in front of goal, criticism often levied at the striker despite his other qualities.

All that being said, one Premier League club now expect their star defender to leave after links to Arsenal.
